Bangkok, June 14, 2026 — The President of the Civil Society Assembly for Peace (CAP) Patani, Romzi Dokho, together with the full leadership of Patani civil society organizations, held a meeting and exchanged views with the Head of the Southern Border Provinces Peace Negotiating Team of Thailand, Thanat Suwannanon, at the Patani Center building on Monday, June 7, it stated by Wartani on June 6, 2026.
During the meeting, CAP conveyed the views and aspirations of the Patani community, their aspiration must be highlighting in every momentum.
CAP representatives raised several issues, chief among them incidents of violence affecting the safety and rights of residents. Representatives noted that the community is concerned about social polarization, the spread of hate speech, and attacks based on differences of opinion on social media.
CAP reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to serve as an open and constructive community space for voicing public perspectives.
“The engagement of all parties in the peace process is a source of strength. Lasting peace can only be built through respect for human dignity, cultural diversity, and the identity of local communities,” Romzi Dokho stated during the meeting.
CAP’s Demands to the Delegation
On behalf of the organization, CAP presented a number of recommendations, including strengthening the protection of communities and public spaces, broadening citizen participation in the peace process, reducing factors that trigger conflict, and creating conditions capable of building trust among various groups within society.
CAP further proposed that channels of communication must be opened to strengthen public awareness, facilitate the free exchange of information, and enable advocacy for public interests without fear or threat.
In response to CAP’s recommendations, Thanat Suwannanon explained that the future structure of the peace negotiating team’s work will encompass a core negotiating team, a committee for the reduction of terrorism, and a committee tasked with gathering public perspectives.
“This approach is intended to ensure that the peace process advances in step with community participation,” Thanat Suwannanon said.
In closing, CAP expressed appreciation to the community, religious leaders, media, and various social networks committed to preserve the spaces for dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence in the Patani region.
